The Fluttermice are strange and magical creatures. Mice with the wings of moths, they can talk to both the four-legged friends and the creepy crawlies who share their home.

It's wintertime in Clarion Wood. The frost is glittering, the nights are long, and the animals who live there are struggling to survive. But the fluttermice have a crucial advantage. It may be cold, and it may be hard, but they will always have each other, and the moths that they call friends.

Only one kind of moth flies so deep in winter, the December moths. So, as midwinter nears, the Fluttermice look to them for guidance. But, when the December Moths tell of a coming storm, Twig fears not just for his friends, but for the moths as well...
